Pray, & Let God Worry 10/31/10 Quote from Martin Luther But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 After landing in a hospital while on a vacation, the young woman was devastated. Instead of sightseeing, she spent her time in a hospital bed-definitely not where she wanted to be. But she found that because she wasn't able to be as active, she had more time to spend with the Lord and listen to His message for her life: “I had the opportunity to rest in Him and rely on Him for healing in my soul as well as my body. God used the nine months of recovery and physical therapy to draw my heart near to His.” The Bible tells us that we will experience trials and tribulations in life and that when we do, we have a choice to make. We can either endure the time by basking in pity -- or we can look upon the trial as an opportunity to invite Christ to do a new work in our heart. The latter brings with it joy and peace and a sense of satisfaction in knowing even tough times are not wasted. Pray, and let God Worry! PRAYER: Lord, thank You for helping me respond to You when life is tough—and for making this a time to grow into the person You want me to be. Amen. A LIGHTER LOAD FROM GOD 10/24/10 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11:30 God tells us that He will bear our burdens, making our yoke easy. It is a promise to His children. But in order to experience His rest, we must first give our burdens over to Him. We do that through prayer, confessing that we cannot carry the weight of life without Him. He wants to bear our burdens for us and make our load light. There will be many people in our lives who will offer to carry our burdens. And while they can share in our pain and suffering—and while often God uses others as a means of His grace—people really cannot carry our burdens for us. Only Christ can lift the load. Allow Him, you need only ask! PRAYER: Father, how humbly thankful we are to You for the grace and mercy You offer us. What a true blessing it is to knowing that Your love for us is so great that You have promised not only to lighten our load, but to lift it, bearing it for us. Thank you God. Amen. God Appointed Change 10/17/10 So it was always: the cloud covered [the tabernacle] by day, and the appearance of fire by night. Numbers 9:16 A Classic Devotional from Alexander MacLaren We need to hold the present with a slack hand, so as to be ready to fold our tents and take to the road if God will. We must not reckon on continuance, nor strike our roots so deep that it needs a hurricane to remove us. To those who set their gaze on Christ, no present from which He wishes them to remove can be so good for them as the new conditions into which He would have them pass. It is hard to leave the spot, though it be in the desert, where we have so long encamped that it has come to look like home. But we must set ourselves to meet the God appointed change cheerfully, in the confidence that nothing will be left behind which it is not good to lose, nor anything met, which does not bring a blessing, however its first aspect may be harsh or sad. PRAYER: Heavenly Father, Give me the kind of faith that is ready to go when You call my name! Help me to not get so comfortable with my life that I can’t move on to new opportunities You set before me. Amen. True & Faithful Promises 10/10/10 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Psalm 32:8 For everything that is written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Romans 15:4 God does not leave us with just His promise to instruct and to teach us. He goes beyond that and promises to counsel us and to watch over us. We must allow Him room in our hearts so that He can teach us. When we know Christ as Lord and Savior, then we also must learn His Word so that we will know His character and His ways. As we learn of Him through His Word we are then better equipped to call upon Him for His promises to us. He is always available to His children and we can call upon Him for His promises at any time—but we must know those promises first, and that requires time with Him in His Word. PRAYER: Dearest Heavenly Father, help me to know your Word so that I will know Your promises, which are true and faithful. Amen. ~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~}~} Creation Calls 10/3/10 CCLI Song No. 1346834 Brian Doerksen This was provided as a video originally created for BBC Church. How could I say there is no God When all around creation calls A singing bird a mighty tree The vast expanse of open sea I have felt the wind blow Whispering Your name I have seen Your tears fall When I watch the rain Gazing at a bird in flight Soaring through the air Lying down beneath the stars I feel Your presence there I love to stand at ocean's shore And feel the thund'ring breakers roar To walk through golden fields of grain 'Neath endless blue horizon's frame List'ning to a river run Watering the earth The fragrance of a rose in bloom A newborn's cry at birth I believe! I believe! I believe! Prayer: Heavenly Father, as I stand in nature surrounded by Your Love, and all that is Yours, I know it is by Your hand that I am created. I am blessed. Amen.
